Cannabis Advice Hotline FAQ
After you submit our request form we will reply with your service offer as soon as possible, usually within a few hours. To accept the offer, you must sign an Attorney-Client Agreement and submit the initial payment.
After we receive your signature and payment, your services will begin. If you already submitted questions, we will get started right away and reply within the guaranteed time*. You will then have the opportunity to ask clarifying questions. After we provide the answer(s) and any necessary clarifications, A la Carte services will conclude. Subscription services will be deducted from your monthly plan.
For your convenience we accept debit cards, echecks, and all credit cards.
A la Carte Service
We will review the question(s) you submitted and email your reply within the guaranteed time*. You will then have the opportunity to ask clarifying questions. After we provide the answer(s) and any necessary clarifications, your service will conclude. You will need to sign up again next time you want to use the Cannabis Advice Hotline.
Subscription Service
After you submit your question(s) we will confirm your subscription, review your question(s), and reply with an offer to proceed that includes the number of questions, guaranteed reply time*, and any additional fees. You must accept the offer to proceed. If you do not accept, you may rephrase or clarify for a new offer.
Your services will start once you agree to proceed and we charge any additional fees to your account on file. Then we will reply within the guaranteed time.* You will have the opportunity to ask clarifying questions. After we provide the answer(s) and any necessary clarifications, your service will be deducted from your monthly subscription. You can submit another question to the Cannabis Advice Hotline whenever you need.
As a client of High Rise Law you have all the protections of the Attorney-Client relationship including confidentiality and privilege. This covers all communications including initial discussions before hiring an attorney. The Attorney-Client Agreement will further outline your protections.
A la Carte questions must be submitted by the client. Subscription clients may designate others to ask questions on behalf of themselves or their business.
New clients and A la Carte questions are submitted using our secure web form. Subscription clients may use our web form or text us questions.
Usually we count one question for each answer we will need to provide, but it depends as every case is different. Your service offer will state the number of questions and you will have the option to rephrase or clarify for a new count before accepting the offer.
The Hotline is for advice regarding cannabis laws, regulations, and compliance. Legal services include substantive work beyond advice such as adding a partner to a business, modifying a cannabis license, contract drafting, lease reviews, etc. We will inform you if your questions require legal services.
There is one state cannabis regulatory agency, but there are 58 counties and 482 municipalities in California. That is a lot to cover. Even though we are familiar with local regulations, the cannabis industry is constantly evolving and regulations are rapidly changing. Due to this, we must triple check all local regulations before answering your question(s) which takes more time and effort on our part.
The benefit of a subscription is we guarantee our availability to answer your questions. Regardless of our current caseload we are here for you. Our Champion plan also guarantees availability for legal services. This is similar to a classic retainer, however all Hotline questions are included in the subscription fee for no additional charge.
This is the time it takes from when you accept the service offer to when we send your answer. We have three options, Standard, Expedited, and Expedited Plus. We always reply as soon as possible, but these are our guaranteed times:
Standard is 1-2 business days. Expedited is one business day. Expedited Plus is same business day. Expedited is based on availability. Reply time does not include state, federal, and office holidays. The expedited reply time fee is charged per offer not per question.
**Reply time may be delayed if your service requires a response from a government agency. We cannot force them to get back to us faster even though we wish we could.
Attorney Lauren Vázquez oversees all questions and answers. Depending on availability, one of our cannabis compliance experts Lauren Payne and Jakki Hernandez, Ms. Vázquez, or one of our contracted Hotline Attorneys will reply to you.
Basic clarifications of our answer(s) are included in your service. Complicated or detailed follow up requests may be counted as additional questions. If this is the case, we will inform you before proceeding.
Additional questions are charged $99 each. Upgrade to an unlimited plan if you need more support.
We prefer to avoid calls because they are inefficient and do not provide a written record to rely upon. Efficiency is how we keep our prices down. However, we are always available to clarify an answer via phone call.
Only services remaining from the first trial month will roll over to the second month. Subsequent months will not roll over.
If you do not cancel, your monthly services will be renewed until you do. Any services remaining from the first trial month will roll over to the second month. Subsequent months will not roll over.
Yes, you may cancel at any time. Your refund will be prorated based on the % of services you have received for the month. For example, 2 out of 4 questions is a 50% refund of your monthly fee. Unlimited plans will be prorated based on the total number of days in the month and the number of days prior to cancelation.
We provide a 10% discount to small businesses that are independently owned and operated by equity licensees. We will request a copy of your equity license and state license fee calculation to confirm. If you do not meet this requirement but are struggling, let us know and we will try to come up with something that works for you.
Office holidays are the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, the day after Christmas, New Years Eve, and April 20th. We are available on 4/20 for urgent matters.
